The VHF radio course is conducted at Allabroad’s dedicated shore-based 6 station communications training suite and leads to the VHF radio license. At the end of the course you will have a thorough knowledge of Digital Selective Calling and general voice procedures required to pass the VHF exam and receive the SRC DSC Radio license required for Yachtmaster candidates. More importantly you will have real practical experience on real radio equipment and not the fiddly unrealistic computer simulators still used by some schools. Also there is a wealth of extra information included in the course and your enthusiastic lecturer will be available for expert advice on matters of maritime communications and electronics.

We believe that in order to deliver a superior course and provide the best learning environment that; your instructor is to have extensive training and experience, our minimum requirements for experience and qualifications for the delivery of the VHF course are as follows:
  • Qualified VHF Instructor (minimum 5 years active teaching)
  • Qualified GOC Radio operator
  • Marine electrical background
  • Full Yachtmaster Instructor sail or motor min 5 years
  • At least one other classroom based teaching qualification
